WHAT IS A DEXA SCAN?
Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is a medical imaging test. It can measure your lean muscle mass and fat tissue! So, whether you're training for that upcoming bodybuilding competition or just starting, a DXA scan can guide you to where you want to go and who you want to be.
WHAT DOES A DEXA SCAN MEASURE?
Composition BMI (Body mass index)
Bone mineral density (BMD)
Lean tissue mass
Fat tissue mass
Includes total body data and regional results (Trunk, Arms, Legs, Pelvis, and Android/Gynoid regions)
Provides insight on Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and Relative Skeletal Muscle Index (RSMI) with ability to capture Total Body Water (TBW), Intracellular Water (ICW), & Extracellular Water (ECW)
WHY IS TRACKING MY FAT IMPORTANT?
Body fat beyond the necessary amount needed for good health can reduce efficiency for an athlete. Even the slightest change in body composition can affect performance—additionally, physical location and the overall percentage of fat act as risk factors for multiple diseases.
IF I AM JUST STARTING OUT WITH MY WORKOUT PLAN, WHY DO I NEED THIS?
DXA can be used as a starting point so that you can shape your training program to target precisely what you need. No guesswork, just facts.
IS IT SAFE?
Absolutely! Although DXA does produce X-rays, the radiation exposure is so low that no shielding of the room or patient is required.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR A SCAN?
Be sure to wear loose-fitting clothing and avoid body lotion. Dexa scans are NOT safe during pregnancy. To ensure the patient's safety, we will provide a pregnancy test for all female patients before the start of the appointment.
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept cash, checks, and credit/debit cards.
